I haven’t been using facebook very often and this is mostly because my philosophy has slowly been changing about fb.
At this point, I really just consider facebook a place for networking. As a teacher, musician, poet, artist, promoter: I have found it really useful. As time has passed and as my friend count grew, I started posting less and less personal thoughts and opinions. This is not to say that I didn’t have them, I just didn’t feel it pertinent to share with that audience.
As laws are being suggested concerning internet censorship, I think that it important more than ever to have your own voice! As I always tell my students; “In this modern world it seems that we are constantly being bombarded with information; we appear to be ‘consuming’ culture at an alarming rate. This is fine; however, I suggest that we must be thinking critically more than ever…and to a degree this asks us to not only be consumers of culture, but producers of culture.” To this point, I really really would like to post here often, regardless of who is reading.
I think that I will share some of the things that I love about the world more often than not. I was just listening to a short clip from one of my friends in the music scene. Chrissy Gurrola is an amazing, talented singer and if you don’t believe me you can go see her perform live. (No really, support local music!) Apparently, Chrissy is working on what will be a new album and I am more than ready to support her in that effort. She just recently recorded a snippet of her song “Mr. Boogie” with the help of Gabriel Gurrola and Steve Garduno. This video seems to be part of a series promoting 915 Lifestyle.com; I am happy that this exists because more people need to realize how amazing this city can be. (I’ll talk about that in another post though)
I hope that Chrissy accomplishes her musical goals, whatever they be. I can say that I’ve had the pleasure of playing with her several times back when I was playing with The Stanton Street Collective. We have a couple of nice recordings from our jam session so maybe one day the world will be ready to hear them. Until then, enjoy this video clip of one fine performer and person!
